Common Terms used in Basketball

Assist - A award to player who passed the ball to the scoring player.

Passing - The act done by throwing the ball to a an allied or same teamed player.

Dribbling - the act done by bouncing the ball on the floor in order not to called travel

Shooting - the act done by by throwing the ball towards the hoop or goal that leads to scoring.

Foul - An illegal play resulting into the opposing team to either a free-throw or ball in their court.

Foul-out - Once a player receive five (5) fouls the player will be out for the rest of the game.

Block - this term is used to refer to defend the goal by pushing the ball from the opposing player.

Rules

1. Only five players per team can participate in the game but there must be spare substitute players in order to switch out tired or injured player and allow a much better rotation of the game.

2. Score More than your opponent team to win the game.

3. Score within the shot clock which is 24 seconds if an opposing member steal the ball or lost the ball the shot clock will be reset to 24 seconds.

4. Dribbling and passing are the only means of advancing the ball towards the field goal.

5. After a successful shot the other will have five seconds to inbound the ball in other words five second of ball possession.

6. the offense must advanced the ball toward the field goal in order to score.

7. The ball or the ballhandler must not left or go out the court's inbound or else the opposing team will be given possession of the ball.

8. Defenders can legally block or steal the ball from the offense players but they will be given a foul if violation are found.

9. Each team are alloted a certain number of fouls. but a single player can only have five fouls and he or she will be considered foul-out.

10. Illegal contact results in foul.

Positions and Roles

Positions Roles Commonly Given to:
Center Centers are likely to play below the basket whether its on offense or defense. also responsible for rebounds and tip-offs at the beginning of the game Tallest players or players with high jump capabilities
Power Forward Mostly played like center playing near or below the basket but takes longer shots than the center Same with Centers but more shooting capabilities
Small Forward The small forward plays against small and large players. They roam all over on the court. Small forwards can score from long shots and close ones. Average sized person from the team
Shooting Guard The shooting guard can make shots from long distance and also is a good dribbler. Usually the team's best shooter
Point Guard The point guard defends the opponent’s point guard and tries to steal the ball and gives rotation for the play The point guard runs the offense and usually is the team’s best dribbler and passer.
